A Memorial Day Weekend à la Française: Fireworks, Flakey Layers & a Little Bit of Heat
There’s something magical about the unofficial start of summer. The grill lids pop open, the pool floats get inflated, and we all collectively exhale into a three-day weekend. Here at Tulla Patisserie & Cafe, we believe Memorial Day deserves more than just the standard hot dog (though we love a good frank). It deserves patisserie.
This year, we’re celebrating with a menu that bridges the gap between the French countryside and your American backyard barbecue. Think flakey, buttery layers… with a kick.
The Star of the Show: Chorizo & Queso Fresco Puff Pastry
You read that right. We took our French grandmother’s recipe for feuilletage (that’s 144 painstaking layers of butter and dough) and gave it a Texan-French fusion hug.
Introducing our Memorial Day Weekend Special:
Chorizo queso fresco pico de gallo with a jalapeño crema
Imagine this: A golden, blistered puff pastry square, sturdy enough to hold a small mountain of spiced, sizzling chorizo. We crumble cool, milky queso fresco over the top, then spoon on fresh, bright pico de gallo for that juicy, acidic crunch. Finally, we finish it with a swoosh of our jalapeño crema—smooth, tangy, and gently warming (not fiery, we promise).
It is savory. It is flakey. It is the best thing you’ll eat while watching the sunset this Sunday. Pair it with a crisp sparkling lemonade or a cold-brew nitro for the ultimate contrast.
The Comeback Kid: Lemon Raspberry Danish
By overwhelming popular demand—she’s back.
Our Lemon Raspberry Danish is officially returning for the holiday weekend. We took a classic viennoiserie dough, filled it with a tart, silky lemon curd (made from scratch with real zest), dot it with whole raspberries, and bake until the edges look like caramelized lace. A final dusting of powdered sugar? Oui, s’il vous plaît.
It tastes like sunshine. It’s the perfect breakfast before you brave the traffic to the lake, or the ideal 3 PM treat when you need a five-minute vacation from hosting duties.
Your Memorial Day Weekend Game Plan
Friday (5/22) – Sunday (5/24)
📍 Tulla Patisserie & Cafe – Tulla Patisserie & Cafe 12020 Teel Parkway, Unit 102 FRISCO, Texas 75033
⏰ 7:30 AM – 3 PM
Pro Tip: These specials will move faster than a melting ice cream cone. We make everything in small batches, by hand, because that’s how Tulla does it. Come early, bring a friend, and order two of the Chorizo pastries. Trust us. You’re going to want to hide one for later.
A Note on the Day: While we fire up our ovens in celebration, we also pause this weekend to remember and honor those who served and sacrificed. However you spend your three days—by the water, in the garden, or right here at our counter—we are honored to be a small, delicious part of your story.
See you for the layers. Stay for the crema.
